There will be information here about the life-enhancing Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) program developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn in the '70s at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center. He also worked in close conjunction with one of my most favorite mindfulness leaders and regular instructors, Saki Santorelli in developing this time honored curriculum. There are such great insights in each of these exceptionally wise people - and those insights have been woven into the MBSR curriculum. We're the lucky beneficiaries.
Included here will be information about the efficacy of MBSR programs in many areas. While there are no specific guarantees with each attendee, statistically MBSR programs help in many mental health and physical health arenas. Just by attending the program for the eight-week duration we receive many benefits. Those who continue with the practices beyond the course of the program receive additional benefits and the journey of a lifetime.
I'll also include a bit about my qualifications for offering the program. Having begun my mindfulness explorations decades ago - and I mean decades - as a comparative religion major in college, I was perched to see how contemplative practices have been part and parcel to our wisdom traditions and religious histories globally - and throughout time.
More recently, I completed much MBSR teacher training at Brown University's School of Public Health. Brown is now the official seat of the MBSR program, and is the seat of the most research being investigated and reported in the mindfulness field.
It's been a privilege to study and practice with my colleague students and teachers at Brown.
I am now qualified to present the eight week Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction program. Earning that designation was not a simple day at the beach in lotus position!
And, you won't need to bend like a pretzel (or lotus position) to attend my course. Sitting, standing or lying down will do just fine.
