As some of you know, I lost a completed version of this post.
I'll rewrite it before the year ends :-)
If nothing else, click on the link below at #2, "The Monkey Business Illusion. You won't regret it.
Meanwhile, I'm leaving a very rough draft publicly assessable for someone who'd like to see this today.
Wabi Sabi!
Draft notes:
1) Last week we spoke about observing something as simple as a burning candle. Try it three different times.
Be prepared to journal with pen and paper ready at the outset.
How do your observations differ over time? How do you and any emotions that might surface differ over time?
2) ** Also, please watch:
The Monkey Business Illusion
https://youtu.be/IGQmdoK_ZfY
3) Take a photo.
Observe a scene. Take a quick snapshot.
Put down your camera.
Use all of your senses - and your mind - to get “a sense of” the location.
Also, bring to mind any additional unique information. Is the place historic? Do you have a personal attachment to the location or is it new to you?
Select an object from the scene to eventually photograph.
Is the object, place, being or event trying to tell you a story?
Observe it for at least four minutes.
Take a photo again, trying to express the story being told to you or the emotion you're feeling. What makes this photo worthy? Or worth your time?
Take another photo within two minutes to articulate what the scene spoke to you.
Allow yourself just one more photo so that you can tweak exposure or composition a little bit.
Compare your very first photo - the one that lured you to the scene - to your final image.
Do you feel as if you used more of your senses to appreciate the object? Are you more aware of the scene? Were you able to get into the moment, as well?
If you'd like, send me both your first and final photos. We can discuss them the next time we meet as a group.
Thanks for playing along!
